Last Jedi teaser trailer reaction

Holy awesomeness!

The teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been released and it’s already safe to say, this film is going to be a must see.

Drama fills the trailer from its opening moments, when we hear Rey talking about seeing both the “light”, and “darkness”. Moments later we see her studying a book as we hear her mention “balance”. My fellow Newplex member, and editor, Jads has theorised that Rey will set out to do what Anakin didn’t – bring balance to the Force.

The Jedi prophesised that the Chosen One (who they believed to be Anakin Skywalker) would destroy the Sith, and bring balance to the Force. Obviously, in the end (after much Sith-ery) Anakin would destroy Palpatine – but the Force remained very much unbalanced.

30 years later and Anakin’s Grandson is now roaming the galaxy. So what if all along Anakin was not meant to destroy the Sith? What if Anakin was actually meant to undo the rift between Sith and Jedi, and understand how to use the Force from the middle; true balance.

In the way Anakin failed to do so, Jads believes Rey (under the guidance of Luke) will be the first person to access the powers of the Jedi and the Sith. Shout out to Jads for this amazing theory.

In the trailer, we see a wonderful camera shot of Rey wielding a lightsaber on the top of a mountain side. I’m guessing this is the same place where the ending of Episode 7 left us, and is showing us Rey’s training under Luke.

We also see a close-up shot of Finn inside of some sort of incubator, likely linked to the battle at the end of Episode 7, where we see Finn get sliced and diced by that dirty heel, Kylo Ben (see what I did there). I’m theorising that perhaps Finn will gain some sort of mechanical exoskeleton to assist the injuries he sustained last time.

Another great moment showcases what could possibly be the newest version of the Jedi Temple, seemingly being destroyed by Captain Phasma and her Storm Troopers. I really hope they do something with Phasma during this movie, she looks so badass – but in Episode 7 she got absolutely buried.

Near the end of the trailer we hear Luke utter the already famous words, “It’s time for the Jedi to end”. Again, I believe this likely links in with the idea of the Jedi and the Sith no longer existing as separate entities.

It’s worth noting that I personally LOVE the Star Wars logo is red, instead of the classic gold.

Last but not least, earlier on today I imagined a possible scene that I’d like to see take place. As previously noted, the idea of uniting the Jedi and the Sith to bring balance to the Force has been discussed. One way they could possibly pull this off is in a huge final battle, during the end of what is probably going to be a lovely choreographed lightsaber fight, I’d like to see something like this:

Rey is unable to outmatch Kylo Ren in a lightsaber dual. Ren stands over her injured body, holding his lightsaber to her neck. Ren tells Rey, “You Jedi are weak, the Sith will rule the galaxy”. Rey replies “I am no Jedi, and I am no Sith”. Rey shockingly uses Force lightning to push Kylo away from killing her. *Force theme plays as Rey uses her new powers*

Don’t know where I’d go from that point, but something like that happening would be cool to see. Again, shout out to Jads who whipped up the idea of Rey using Sith powers.

I’m always open to reading theories regarding new films. If you have any theories of your own, feel free to tweet us @thenewplex.
