5 championship belts AEW should introduce

AEW’s launch is nearly here, but with no news of championship gold, here are a few original ideas

The AEW era is very much upon us, and with every week as we approach their Double or Nothing debut, more and more details about the company’s future come to light. However, other than the brief mention of a world title, no definitive championship belt news has been announced.

So, being the belt guy that i am, I’ve put together a list (in no particular order) of five championships I think AEW should introduce (excluding the world title) when they open for business in Las Vegas.

1. AEW American Dream Championship

The name of this belt is, of course, based on the legacy of Dusty Rhodes – AEW executive Cody Rhode’s father. The championship should be gold, perhaps with a white strap, and feature multiple design elements that represent America.

The belt would act as a mid-card championship to help elevate younger or less accomplished talent to the next step in their career, acting in a similar way to how the Intercontinental title used to be back in the day when mid-card belts meant something.

2. AEW Television Championship

Back in the 80s and 90s, the TV championship as part of the NWA was considered an extremely prestigious prize – held by greats such as Arn Anderson and Booker T to name a couple. Those who follow Cody Rhodes online will know he was 100 percent a WCW guy.

With AEW reportedly in advanced talks to have a TV deal nailed down, and Cody’s fandom for the old WCW goodness, AEW should capitalize on the lack of television titles in wrestling today and introduce their own TV title. The belt could be defended weekly on television, and act as an opportunity for talent to wrestle week-to-week and showcase their ability.

3. AEW Uncanny Championship

Speaking of Cody’s fandom, those that follow him on Twitter will also know he is a fan of Marvel super-team, the X-Men. The Uncanny X-Men series is the longest running in the franchise, and it just sounds cool right?

The idea behind the Uncanny Championship is inspired by unpredictability and uniqueness that the Being the Elite series on YouTube showcases, along with some hardcore rasslin’. The Uncanny title would be like the Hardcore title of many moons ago, with wrestlers having the chance to become champion 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Not only could the title reintroduce hardcore wrestling back to television, but could also be defended on Being the Elite on YouTube!

4. AEW Tag Team Championships

This one is a no-brainer obviously, but it’s still one that should be brought up. AEW has already announced that they plan to make tag team wrestling a main event feature. How are they going to do this? They make the Tag Team championships in their company mean just as much as the main singles titles. Perhaps they could even get unique? What about a tag team iron man match? Either way, a set of gold belts to crown the best tag team in AEW is the way to go, just don’t make them look like rusty old pennies!

5. AEW All In Case

While this is not a championship belt itself, the All In Case would act in a similar way to a championship, with the holder being able to utilize the case to challenge a champion of their choice (notice I didn’t say world champion). Regardless of how this case could be won – possibly a tournament or some multi-man ladder match – the case would allow the winner to challenge a champion of their choice at any time they wish.

I hope you enjoyed my AEW title wishlist, and are as excited for the company to come to TV as much as I am! Do you have any AEW belt ideas or designs? If so, send them in!
